Frequently Asked Questions
-
DO POOR DIGITAL HABITS REALLY AFFECT GROWN-UPS TOO?
Nearly 60% of employees report checking email within 5 minutes of waking up (Deloitte Connected Consumer Survey). This habit, combined with the fact that nearly 50% of employees feel burnout (Microsoft Work Trend Index), illustrates a challenging picture for adult wellness.
-
WHAT ARE THE IMPACTS OF TECH OVERWHELM AT SCHOOL?
Research shows that nearly 60% of U.S. teens and adults (Pew Research) have attempted to reduce their social media or gaming use due to feeling overwhelmed.
Additionally, studies indicate that just three months after starting smartphone use, users experience a significant drop in mental arithmetic scores, reflecting a decrease in attentional capacity.
-
HOW DOES EXCESSIVE, UNMANAGED TECH USE AFFECT FAMILY TIME?
Refocusing after digital distractions can cost up to 5 weeks of productive time each year (The Distraction Addiction). Children under 14 spend nearly twice as much time on tech devices (3 hours and 18 minutes per day) compared to the time they spend conversing with their families (1 hour and 43 minutes per day) (Donnelly, L., 2019, The Telegraph).

WHAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE PRODUCTIVITY & WELLNESS LOSS FROM TECH OVERWHELM?
Most people don't like to work long hours without being rewarded. Yet, people work an extra 6 hours per week just to compensate for the almost 15% productivity loss caused by social media alone (e-mail, gaming, etc. add additional losses).
Attention spans have crumbled to 47 seconds (Gloria Mark), and workers increasingly feel disconnected from their work. HP’s work relationship index shows that only 27% of knowledge workers say they have a healthy relationship with work.

HOW DOES THE ASSESSMENT WORK?
This is a free service, which provides results right away! By entering information about your top 3 most commonly used devices, participants receive a Choice Score, which, unlike screen time, is a modern way to evaluate your 360-degree relationship with technology. There are 3 tiers: Hooked, Disciplined, and Empowered, which provides a gauge of your relationship with technology.
The human-centered Choice Action provides you an example of specific, targeted exercises that you can start right away. The assessment can be completed as many times as needed, and users who create their accounts can also track progress over time - ideally heading toward a more empowered posture with technology.

WHY DO I NEED TO TAKE THE WORKSHOP?
The live, cohort-based workshops teach individuals how to apply our Digital Wellness framework in combination with insights about their digital footprints to regain control over their digital choices. Workshops cover additional, in-depth exercises with the context of the research behind this emerging field.
The goal of each workshop is to develop capability for resilient and sustainable existence with technology, returning control back to you. Throughout the workshop, you are able to track how your Choice Score improves.
These are available for individuals to sign up as well as offered for employers and schools.
